Can I ask you folks a few favours here?
Some of this stuff is beyond me entirely....
So I have the chainsword and bolt pistol Unwrapped and ready to be textured, but I seem to have hit a snag. I have Adobe Photoshop CS2, and was told that I can just open the .uvw file with it, but that seems to not be the case. Does anyone know what to do from here? If someone can post a video or a link to a pre-existing photo, that would be REALLY cool of you!

Also, I've been really thinking about this chainsword thing. I think it would end up being a major part of TAINT's combat, so I wanted to make the attacks a bit more dynamic. In the warhammer universe, the chainsword is normally in the right hand, while the bolt pistol is in the left. I wouldn't know where to start, but this is what I want to do:
I want to have the Pistol/Sword setup as standard, with the pistol shot as left click, and the sword swing as right. But I also want to have different "fire modes." For example, if I wanted to focus on using the sword, I would want to be able to have more than one attack with the sword for different situations, such as haviing a "stab" fire mode, a "backhand" fire mode, and a "swing" fire mode. OR maybe do like FEAR and have different attacks based on how you are moving. I have absolutely no clue how I would do this or if it is even possible, so if someone can halp just a wee bit, that would also be very cool!

Anyways, I'm off to work on some more models!

You've done some great work there. But I'm sorry that I don't know how to deal with .uvw file on Adobe CS2. Have you tried Adobe and other graphical design sites. You can ask those pros there, just a suggestion.

Also you have great ideas, but those I guess would require some serious animation and scripting work.

Ugh, have come to a dead halt for the mod. Totally f***ed up the character models (WAAAY too many polys and the completely wrong modeling system). Gun and Chainsword still workable though, as they are comparatively simple. But the Space Marine models are just ridiculous. I have to find a way to get rid of 20,000-28,000 polys.... soooooo... .it looks like I'm just starting over with them, instead of spending hours optimizing and re-optimizing them, then cutting parts out, etc...

The good news is that you learn from your mistakes, and I only have to redo 2 models instead of ALL models.

Anyways, I've done some code tests on bolt pistol, and all seems to be good, I will be testing it as soon as I figure out this whole texturing thing. Any chance someone here knows textures a little more than I do, and could help me out with this?

Sad but true...
Well, I am sorry to say that this mod is on hold for an unknown period of time. I simply don't have the energy right now to work on this. I am a bit frustrated with the mistakes that I have made thus far, but I have also learned a great deal from them. I hope to come back to this project in the future with fresh eyes and a new set of ideas.... and hopefully someone who knows the coding for STALKER better than I do! I am really good in the abstract visual department, but when it comes down to the pages and pages of code editing involved in editing all.spawn etc. I simply do not have the patience.

I do not have my computer right now, and I am working 50-60 hours a week, so the raw time needed for development of mod like this, on my own, just isn't there.

As I said, this is *hopefully* not the killswitch for the mod, but only time will tell. Thanks a million for the support coming from the StalkerMod and ModDB communities, and we'll be visiting this project again sometime in the future, hopefully with a full team, but I'll do what I can on my own if I have to.

Thanks
-Mea

Sorry to hear that; but it is also encouraging to see that you haven't lost the ambition to complete it when the time is more suitable.
Having a job and having good working hours, particularly in this economic climate, is very good and important. Job and food is the most important priorities, of course.

You can come back to modding any time, as long as you want it; it's easier. I'm sure, when you've returned modding, you'll have much better ideas, as you put it.
When that time comes, I can offer some help on all.spawn, etc, at some degree.

Alright, I need a HUGE favour from ye guys.
I was smart enough to burn my 3ds files to cd, and I got 3ds Max 7 up and running again...
But I once again need x-ray plugins.
I have the file now... but the readme is all in Russian. Could someone drop me a translation, or even some simple instructions on how to install the plugins into 3ds?

Also, the plugins are for Maya, but will they work with Max 7?
Do I need to get a plugin specifically for Max?

I think you'd need specific plug-ins for MAYA and Max7. I use MAYA, if you were using it then I could give you the instruction on how to place and activate the plugin. I checked if I had a plugin for Max7, but, no, unfortunately I don't. Try to get hold of MAYA 2008, or check Russian sites for Max7 plugin, that's if someone have it here of course.

EDIT: If I remember right, I think jamie was using Max 7, try to drop him a an email.
