Nice to know Grump, I have to say nanderson seems like a very talented scripter... modest too!!

He took my crude random stash script and seriously improved it, but still saw fit to credit me in the title, which was not required. This random weather mod looks neat as well, I will be trying this when I next play SHOC. Though random weather mods have been done already they are quite basic, with only one or two possible changes per day, this seems to be very random indeed when I had a quick go of it.

PS. Using his nightvision as well, the "elite" one is great.

:ymblushing: :ymblushing: :ymblushing: 1G thanks to you both. Let me note that I've only done a couple of minimods so far. Most (if not all) of them are based on others' ideas and not all original "inventors" have received proper credit - because I have no idea who first came up with each concept that I've stolen 8-[

EggChen, you really deserve the credit for random stashes, since you started it and my implementation is based on your way of doing it :thumbright: I merely put together a few lines of script and released it as my work :P

Ideas are easy, making them work is the tough part...

Newer version available

Postby nandersen on 10 Apr 2009 13:20

Sorry for not updating this thread as I did on GSC forum. I didn't forget, just got ...distracted :)

Anyway, latest development version is 0.9.4 and includes the following changes:
- tweaked ambient light - now sun/moonlight has considerable impact on ambient light level (as reflected light)
- the late evenings and early mornings are now brighter so there's much less of a pitch black feeling
- the nights are slightly brighter to be playable with good nightvision (e.g. my "elite NV" effector)
- the moonlight has been made much stronger so that on a night with moon fully exposed it is possible to see without nightvision
- compatibility changes to the script to better support OL2.2 and DEXXX's blowout mods
- added compatibility features for Priboi Story 1.1 (requires a compatibility patch)
- addressed a problem with "stalled" transitions. Thanks to bangalore for his help with finding the problem and testing

Download: http://zhat.dk/stalker/files/dynamic_weather_v0.9.4.zip

The Priboi Story 1.1 compatibility patch should be applied to PS1.1 install before installing DW0.9.4.

There are no changes to OL2.2 compatibility (textures) pack: http://zhat.dk/stalker/files/dynamic_we ... r_ol2.2.7z

Nanderson, mind explaining something for me?

What is the difference between this and SWOv3? Is it basically that one is your weather, the other is Trojunauch's and the scripting/weather transition is pretty similar?

I've been reading both threads on GSC, and wondering about installing one properly into my game (I currently use my own version of Panoramic).

trojanuch's work on SWO3 was probably well underway when I started working on DW. I didn't know about it though and this is probably the biggest reason why we have these two mods today. I did some testing for trojanuch while developing DW and he provided feedback on my early work with DW. It was relatively late in SWO3 development that trojanuch and I agreed to use DW scripting for SWO3.

DW was never meant to be a "big" mod - on the contrary: you should think of it as vanilla weather with added diversity plus some nice but lightweight features like restored sun and dark nights. SWO3 can be compared to big texture mods but with a lot of hard work put into weather configs as well.

You can call SWO3 an artist's work. DW is the work of a programmer. I think, however, that both projects benefit from each other since trojanuch and I exchanged ideas and knowledge and a lot of my programming for DW was reused for SWO3 (scripting and build tools).

Even though DW is based (almost) entirely on vanilla textures I think that it turned out quite OK and may actually be a good alternative to SWO3 for users with "weaker" PCs or users that can only run the game in Static Lighting. Also note that current version of DW is only 164 kB in download size.

Thanks nandersen, yep I have noticed you like to keep your mod sizes quite light :thumbright:

I just wondered how they both seemed to come out of nowhere with similar features, well done with the scripting anyway.

I'll have to give them both a whirl to see which style suits me best.

Merge with AAO

Postby nandersen on 30 May 2009 19:10

On GSC forum {imperialreign} has released the latest version of Ambient Audio Overhaul with DW compatibility.
This is based based on the "unofficial" 0.9.5 version of DW with by-level customization support.

I've been using it for a while and I must say it's pretty darn good :)
