STALKER - salvage mod

Postby VINTAR on 17 Aug 2009 06:43

Well my weapon salvage mod is complete thanks to barin @ gsc. I am not releasing it on gsc as i have sort of teamed up with another noob modder to create a bigger mod. I will give you guys the code though if you want. I have nowhere i can upload it but its so small (surprisingly) that i could paste the code in a post.

WOW, I`m surprised no-one is interested.

Just to clarify, while a repair mod is not new, this one is (as I believe it )unique insofaras :-

1.) You do not need to see an NPC to repair your weapon,
2.) You do not need to find repair packs.
3.) You do not need money to repair weapons.

This mod salvages parts from weapons that you have in your inventory.

While I agree that it would make stalker very easy as there are alot of weapons around, my idea was to eventually make all weapons dropped by NPC`S just about useless to make this mod viable and make ammo very scarce to compensate further.

Another cool thing is that unique weapons can NOT be repaired. That would just be too much.

Yes, with that explanation it sounds quite interesting. Particularly given how it is intended to be implemented, described in (I colored it) blue.
making all dropped weapons almost useless, so that those dropped weapons could only provide very little, very limited repair facility/ability to the weapon you're holding is actually a very good idea. Also, it is a good decision not to offer repair abilities to "unique weapons" by collecting pieces from those dropped weapons.

Your mod is creative and can sure be useful. I expect that several modders can move to implement this function.

(Your first post was very short and lacked any detailed explanation on this otherwise interesting and creative mod. That's way, I think, you might have not received an immediate response from players.
Presentation is important, my friend, in order to receive the due deserved applause =D> )

PS: Also, it's best that if you could zip the file and upload it to a server. Many file hosts offer free service, and for smaller files, they are everywhere.

Its still a good idea...and Nightwatch is right as I didn't know what you were talking about. I really like that idea and should be implimented in major mods. You should see
if it can be merged with "Complete 2009" or other main mods.

This can be merged with anything. Its so surprisingly and laughably small, i think most people when looking at the script will be like wow thats so easy yet noone has done it yet!!. Only two files needed for gamedata. My secret... Its done like natvac's antirad hotkey in main menu. Since its almost impossible to add a repair button to the right click weapon function, but i'm working on that :-)

How does it work? When you collect a dropped weapon, say LR300, and if this LR300 has left 10% life in it, then this collected weapon's life will automatically merge with the LR300 that (if) you have? Do you need to be carrying the same weapon for this auto-repair function to work, or it still repairs your LR300 even if it's in your inventory, but not in your hand?

There is a very nice genuine idea here, and as you say, it's working. That's good. I think you should consider making an explanatory entry post (bullet points type, or not) for the mod and give examples. It'll take more interest. :thumbright:

Well, here it is, my first mod :-

WEAPON SALVAGE MOD 1.0
----------------------

1.) Description
2.) How it works
3.) Installation
4.) Credits

1. Description
--------------

This is a repair mod of sorts but a bit different. IE:

a) There is no need to see anyone for repairs,
b) Money is not needed to repair weapon,
c) Weapons can be repaired at any time if the right equipment is available.

2. How it works
---------------

This mod works for weapons in slot three only IE: rifles.
You need to have at least two of the same weapons in your inventory.
Unique weapons can not be repaired.

i ) Put the weapon you want to repair in slot 3,
ii ) Press esc to enter main menu,
iii) Press "x" without the inverted commas

and youre done, the condition of your activated weapon will be combined with that of the other in your inventory. the weapon in your inventory will be rendered useless and all ammunition in it will be unloaded and the useless weapon discarded.
If you have three of the same weapon and your active weapon is not fully restored, repeat.

3. Installation
---------------

i ) unpack the rar file with winrar
ii ) Drag and drop the unpacked gamedata folder into you shoc folder
iii) If this is your first mod then modify the first line in 'fsgame.ltx' to

$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata\

and thats it, enjoy ;)

4. Credits
----------

Allthough this was my concept, all credit must go to Barin for the scripting genius.

Enjoy guys :-bd
