Prey

I'm not sure if this game is so popular, but in my opinion this game beats Doom and Quake in all cases, and also beats all other sci-fi FPS games, IMHO.:)

Features:
Actor is a Cherokee Indian
Wall-climbing
Dimension teleports
Pet Hawk
Spirit Form
Visiting the Land of the Ancients
Living enviroment (like Zerg in Starcraft), living weapons

This game really did something new, that's why I like it a lot!:)

Yep, I think this game was under-rated and I liked it a lot.

Thought the graphics were cool, and as for the opening scene where the jukebox played "Don't fear the reaper", inspired!

I loved the acid shotgun, but some of the other weapons were a bit of a letdown. It truly did something new though, and some levels like the little asteroid made my head hurt trying to work out the gravity.

Shit, all this talk of old games, I might reinstall Prey as well (F.E.A.R and Doom 3 are back on already!)

I smell change on the winds, Enisi!:D

Yeah, it's a shame the companies aren't releasing as great as game what we had at the past. It's still a worth to go back to the old game time to time.

I keep picking up this game at the store and thinking about buying it. In the end I have to put it down for some reason. Is it really good?

I was about to say what MeanderingBeing said. So, is it more like FEAR and DOOM 3 type, tactical a bit, or like Halo type, none-stop gunning and running?

Totally unique experience, you can't compare with those games at all.
It's based on a tweaked Doom3 / Quake4 engine, anyway, but that is all what is ripped off from other games.

I'm not sure its totally unique, but I am sure if you like FPS games you will enjoy this. Some pointers...

- Great opening sequence
- Some great music
- Combat is good, enemies and weapons will be new to you (acid shotgun anyone?)
- Mind bending puzzles, "Portal with guns", but better than that sounds.
- Its a bit tongue in cheek, with some humour at its own expense.

Finally if you have any appreciation for technology, try it. There are points in a level where you just stop, and think about what you just did. The scale of some of the levels is amazing, and the gravity inspired puzzles can be the kind that frustrate, but also give you that "Eureka" moment when you get them. There are also some sections that require you to think in another dimension, the "spirit" dimension, but I won't spoil it.

Sounds good, so many people recommended it to me, but I've always delayed playing it. This time , I will, though. Acid shotguns, unique weapons... good, I hope it doesn't also have swords in it. :) I don't like sword games.

I had a hard time getting into Prey and didn't think the weapons were to
powerful. Shooting little balls of energy that don't have much sound to them I didn't care for and I'm not a puzzle-game fan. That's just me. I'm
more a FEAR kind of guy especially with weapons. But it does run great and MOST people like it alot.

I'm not much of a "puzzle guy" in the games, either.
Those extensive puzzles were the only dislike for me in those Resident evil series, it reminds me now.

If you're a review reader like myself, perhaps some of you also wondered why Prey was pretty much slammed for bringing 'nothing new' to the table and generally just being another PFS clone - yet 6-12mths (not sure of precise timeline) later, we get the Portal game and every reviewer raves about how revolutionary it is. Isn't Portal (I haven't played it) based on exactly what Prey did introduce?

Prey and Portal are a tad diffrent, Prey's portals are used for trasistions in the world to get to dif parts of fighting so to speak, portal uses portals to get things from one place to the other to fix and solve puzzles, i think its just the way they both use the portals diffrently. :)

Ah ok - cheers for clearing that up for me.

I thought that Prey was a great game - entering that first 'portal box' that transitioned you onto the tiny planet will be a gaming moment I don't think I'll ever forget.

Now that did make me stop in my tracks, and I think I actually said out loud "What the hell?"

=D>

I have not played Portal either, but I have to say the technology in Prey was fantastic, not just using portals for positional changes, but like in the example Victim mentions, seemlessly messing with scale as well.

So while they used the idea for different ends, I do think Prey deserved more credit than it got.... lets just say, had it been exactly the same game, but made by Valve, it would have got that credit.
