Oh, I found the alternative ending (sorry, that's what I meant in my OP). Wish it'd been longer than 30 seconds!

I had like over 1000 5.45x39 "dirty" rounds, over 500 12 GA and "who knows how many but a buttload" of pistol rounds left at the end and want to USE them! Is there any hope of post end-game play?

And yes, it IS an awesome game!

Wha-??? :-o I had to use throwing knives on the gargoyle that tries to kill yer buddy in the tower!!! (Which by the way, I was bloody proud of myself when I did that. It had a knife sticking out of an eye, another on the tip of its nose, and 3 more lodged in the top of its dome. Unfortunately, that didn't kill it, so I had to pull my regular knife and had to stick it a couple more times... killed it literally an instant before it ate my buddy.)
LOOK! It says gullible on the ceiling!!!

Having played on all difficulties, it seemed like, on hardcore, that there were more enemies to loot from. Also, I was able to upgrade my firearms almost immediately in that game by taking a lot of time to thoroughly search each area. Better firearms == fewer cartridges in order to lay waste. In fact, I had to agonize over keeping the scoped AK74 I'd bought or taking the silenced Vintar (or whatever it was) with the laser at the beginning of the Nazi underground base.

However, taking out the demon with knives is truly hard-core. I'm proud of you, too! :)

Just wanted to ask:

Has anyone been bitten by the September 5th Steam DLC for Metro 2033, leaving you with an unplayable Metro 2033 ("Metro 2033 Executable has stopped working")? If so, I tried all the "fixes" proposed by the STEAM community until I found the one at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=1425766 . Seems the "update" deleted a necessary file, content.vfs0. The sucker is nearly 2 Gbyte, so it's not like it was lost in the noise or anything!

With that file replaced, I burned through the new Ranger Easy difficulty in a day. Now, I'm trying Ranger Hardcore. Both new difficulties have a new "rifle" - the volt (kind of a super pneumatic rifle with an electric zap melee mode) and a belt-fed auto shotgun. I can say, the auto shotty REALLY burns through ammo but is damned effective. Use your "aim" key to fire it in semi-auto mode. I wasted so many shotshells before D6, getting through the amoebas down in the bowels of D6 put me down to just a couple pistol rounds, no other remaining ammo.

Ranger Hardcore gives you NO HUD, and no way to check how much ammo you have except at a trader or in your journal. In both difficulties, there is no longer any screen crosshair, you have to aim. Less ammo is available, mutants and humans die with fewer hits. And, so do you. Different, not sure if it's better or worse, just different.
