MODDING FOR ROOKIES

Postby VINTAR on 30 Sep 2008 12:04

Hi guys. I know nothing about modding, only how to tweak an already modified game.

My question is how do yo modify the actor to carry more weight if I am playing Vanilla stalker? Need to know from start to finsih. like extract gamedata0.db, edit actor.ltx and so forth.

Thanks.

I dont think you can in Vanilla.
but.....
I could be wrong.
as I understand it, you need a gamedata folder, which Vanilla does not have
to increase your weight limit in mods
go into your System.ltx look for max weight change the value to what you want...... max weight=300
then go into Actors.ltx look for Max Item Mass, make this value the same as above.............Max Item Mass=300.
then still in Actors ltx look for Max Walk this should be a higher value than those above........Max Walk=370
or something like that ;)
not sure about the max walk, it's been that long since I changed one, it could be Max Walk Weight that you need to look for

Is the system.ltx file in gamedata0.db? Once I have edited the ltx files, then what? Do I just create a gamedata folder, copy the new actor.ltx and system.ltx to the gamedata folder then change the line gamedata true true ?

You must create the same folder structure what is in the unpacked gamedata. Then copy your files to there.

config\system.ltx
config\creatures\actor.ltx

You must use the gamedata.dbb because that is the latest config (dbc is just 1.0005 scripts and xml's)

Make sure you have in system.ltx:

with 1.0004:

current_server_entity_version = 6

with 1.0005:

current_server_entity_version = 7

Thanks Kanyhalos, really appreciate it. Just one thing I didnt understand,.

You said use the gamedata.dbb, do you mean extract gamedata.dbb instead of gamedata0.db?

Edit : will this require a restart?

Yes, because the 0.db is the unpatched version. Using that would cause immediately CTD.

Thanks man :salute: . If I remember correctly, that is a very large file to unpack. Oh well,I`ve nothing better to do tonight :tongue:

Man is it nice to talk to you without other noobs nagging you about this and that on the other forum. Although you may seem concerned that no-one has come across to this site to ask you question, I`m not, at least we have your wealth of knowledge to ourselves :rr:

EDIT: Heres another one for you while youre in a helpful mood.

Where do I find the code for the npc`s that play the guitar?

If your going to start messing around its far easier to unpack every db file. Just make sure you do them in order, 0-9,a,b,c etc and have them unpack to the same directory.

That way the patches will overwrite the earlier files, and you can access anything you want. When I first started it was a pain when I tried something and didn't have a file, so had to find it in the db's and unpack..

It will save you time in the long run, many tweaks require a change to more than one file, so you may need files you never thought you would.

The unpacked gamedata folder will be quite large 6-7gb, but you can then copy whatever files you need, and will always have a vanilla version to compare your tweaks to if something goes wrong.

Eggchen, thanks for the tip.

Kany, thanks man, I`ve done it. Actor now carries 500 pounds, and I can sprint as long as I like :tongue:

Cant find the xr_kamp.script you mentioned. Is it in another db file that I need to extract. I only extracted he gamedata.dbb.

Ok thanks, I`ll do what Eggchen suggested and unpack everything.

Eggchen, just to clarify. After I unpack all the db files in order, do I then unpack the gamedata.dbb aswell to effect the patch?

Another 2 questions from the rookie.

1. where do I find the script for when an item is selected in your inventory, lets say for example the exoskeleton?

2. where can I find the HUD for the exoskeleton?

Well, if you mean with OL, then:

1. amk_mod.script, function check_armor()

2. textures\amk\hud_exo.dds

Hm, well, there is no exo HUD in vanilla, so I don't understand your question now.
dds file can be edited with Adobe Photoshop + nvidia dds plugin
