Yet another question I'm afraid :p

In the bar you have probably all noticed those super crappy low res papers and billboards, are those part of the level or individual files? I can't seem to find them trawling through all the extracted files.

I suggest that you check the textures\prop and textures\sign folders in vanilla. I remember that the poster's name that you see right in front of you when you're entering the Bar is "prop_agit"
(hey Ket, check the prop\prop_girl_1.dds :mozilla_wink: (It's vanilla, I have no part in this :p )

Hey ket, check out this simply awesome mod, that turns the paper into dirty cloths complete with bump-maps. Even if you don't like this mod you can see what the file is you need to work on.

Oh, and I already have a use for that girly picture, I'll post it here for anyone who wants it.

Edit: Here it is, as Nightwatch says, its a vanilla texture, I just tweaked it a bit.....

I think I just have a similar approach to Stalker as you, it's all in the details, and little details like that paper bug me (and you) to the point where you have to do something!!

The girly picture looks good in game, try it out. You'll see I included the corrugated iron effect of the original sign, so it matches the bumpmaps.

Very true :D bit like that no reflections in visors thing under DX9, its there in DX8 so why not DX9! That will probably be the next thing I go about fixing, want to help with that? Theres a lot of shader files :p Good news is their easy to tell apart, r1 is DX8, r2 is DX9!

OK, we should probably save the visor talk for the thread I made here :D With our combined noodles (well with what remains of them modding what can be the furiously frustrating game that is stalker), I'm sure we will crack it. No pun intended toward ur nick :p also, a quick copy and paste for anyone curious;

TA-DA! Remember those god aweful low-res textures of paper in the bar? I replaced them for the final release version of TK 1.1! What to? Well what better than of a map, with photos placed on various parts highlighting "hotspots"!

Image

Also, you ever noticed how the wood cabinets, wardrobes, chairs etc in stalker all look very old and worn but are oddly smooth and flat like plastic? Not anymore :D

If I remember rightly there are two of those textures in the archives.... you may have altered an obsolete one... try the props folder again.

Unfortunately I can't quickly scan through the textures as I only have GIMP installed at the moment.

Edit: I knew there were two, but it was not the prop folder... believe it or not its in the wm folder!!

Dang bad, bad GSQ! I bet our kind has lost many a modder through them going insane trying to figure that one out! Also, heres a dds plugin for gimp ;) its a nightmare trying to find plugins for gimp, paint.net is much less painful, but as far as i know paint.net cant make or alter bump maps :(

That DDS plugin is good, but it doesn't (as of 2.06, IIRC) yet support saving mipmaps, or layers beyond transparency, unfortunately. Still, it made GIMP my graphical editor for STALKER... =D>

GIMP is an amazing program for "free". It was even featured in a recent issue of Maximum PC.

Yep gimp is damn good, although I wish it was easier to find plugin packs and such for it.. better still why don't the authors just include all "important" (such as the dds plugin) with the next build? Would make life a lot simpler for most people.
