How can I load xrayMayaTools.mll plugin in MAYA 2008?

I have downloaded bardak's xray_re-tools-10sep2008 pack and placed the xrayMayaTools.mll that came with the package into the MAYA 2008 (SP1 updated) plugins folders as directed.
The plugin as you would know is designed: "xrayMayaTools.mll - Maya plugin to import/export X-Ray files" ( as referred in the documentation of the download)

However, when I try to load the plugin either through the MEL or the script editor windows (theres no other way as far as MAYA lets me know) it gives a "failure to load error."
Yet, all other plugins in MAYA plugins folder are successfully loaded.

As I haven't found anyone in MAYA Support team who is familiar with xray engine and OGF formats, I was advised to ask the producer and providers of these formats and the plugin.

So, I'm stuck. I'd appreciate if someone from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community can shed light into this problem that I'm having. As I'm not a graphics designer by profession, I might not have done the correct thing to activate this plugin.

Have you checked both "loaded" and "auto-load" options in the plugin manager?

Yes, both the load and auto-load checkboxes are checked. No loading. I also forced it through the MEL and script editor windows, induavidually and also with "loadPlugin -allPlugins;" command, no use. All 33 plugins load perfectly, but the xrayMayaTools.mll.

Is teher a plugin from the SDK? I don't have SDK now. If there's a plugin for MAYA2008 in it, I try to get it though. But why this xrayMayaTools.mll doesn't load? Anyone has the same experience?

Hmm.. well it should work fine AFAIK. Try downloading the package from a different source in case that plugin is corrupt in the archive?

That may be a possibility. I don't know any other source to download the pack. it was Russian site stalkerin.gameru.net Do you have a working one?

Other downloads do not seem to help in my case. I cehecked the internet, many people are complaining that xrayMayaTools.mll does not work on their MAYA applications either.

Do you have a working plug-in?

I'd appreciate if anyone has a working plugin for MAYA2008 sp1 (for OGF format, of course) thanks. :)

I don't. Not gotten to that stage of TK development yet, but I'm sure when I do I'll be as frustrated as you. Or I may just use 3D Max.

Thanks :thumbright: Dowloaded them. I'll try them later tonight and post the result. (one of them is for MAYA8.5, but I'll try it as well, if the 20008 plug doesn't work either.)

That was the idea in uploading that as well ;) funny how sometimes an older plugin works with the newer software versions, but it happens like that sometimes.

Are there any plug-ins for Maya 8.0, or is that a no-go? I offered to help out with the Back to the Roots project, only I haven't used 3DS Max all that often (and do plug-ins exist for 3DS Max 9?), I use Maya more often (at the moment, only Maya).

OK... SUCCESS!!

Well, after posting here and raising the question of the possibility that (if) xray-SDK may also be needed to be installed on your system in order to have MAYA 2008 (sp1) xrayMayaTools.mll initialize properly, I first downloaded the bardak’s full pack xray_re-tools-10sep2008 from stalkerin.gameru.net from http://stalkerin.gameru.net/ (view in translated version). I found a file called xray_path.ltx in the pack, which had been missing in my previous download.
Then, the instructions to install the plugin has become very clear.

If anyone is having the same problems that I had, or may have in the future, this is how I’ve proceeded:

1-FIRST: you NEED xray SDK installed on your system.
(For Download link check the useful links thread on this Modding Techniques section of this forum)

Then:
2-In order to load the plugin properly in MAYA 2008 (it must be SP1 updated version), you need to locate the xray_path.ltx file in the download pack and put in into the Autodesk\MAYA2008\bin.
(On the file’s first line there is a path to xray SDK assuming that it’s installed on your C drive, Programs Files. Check it. If you’ve installed your SDK on another location, then amend it accordingly.)

3- Then place the xrayMayaTools.mll into Autodesk\MAYA2008\bin\plug-ins folder.

4- When MAYA is running, either a) through the MEL window, or b) through the Script-Editor window enter:
Code: Select all
loadPlugin xrayMayaTools.mll;
and hit the ENTER key on your numeric part of your keyboard.

Also: You can initialize/load the plug-in through MAYA’s Window/Preferences/Plug-in Manager by ticking the box next to the xrayMayaTools.mll.

Navigate to your OGF file through the open file and open your file in MAYA.

Then enjoy, or maybe not, that depends.
