Making bump maps with photoshop CS3 or paint.net

Postby ket on 19 Mar 2010 21:25

Does anyone know how to make bump maps with paint.net or photoshop CS3? I've been jacking around with both for the last 3 hours and can't seem to get them right. Thus, its now starting to piss me off. Google as ever for matters such as this is useless, only turning up guides that are very vauge, or for old versions of photoshop. I don't need anything in-depth, just a A>B>C>D> bullet style guide will be fine.

Are you trying to edit a bump map or create one from the beginning? Though it's been a while I haven't done any STALKER work on Adobe Photoshops, I may try to remember the way (I usually forget these kind of work after I've done and try to remember it every time when next time I need it, lol :D , well, I'm not a graphical designer anyway, just putting my hands into things when things need it  )

I'm trying to create brand new bump maps as I have some real nice high resolution textures that will be used in the final release of TK2.ZERO. One of the textures completely does away with the nasty low res asphalt texture you see throughout the entire game.

OK, an easier way maybe, you can use the asphalt texture from NEWSA, I use the Clear Sky one, further enhanced by EggChen at that time. Brilliant asphalt; well not that if you have something in your mind completely different of course.

Its not just the asphalt. I also have textures for other things such as a replacement texture for the house wolf stands beside. Always hated how crappy that texture looked.
