I need to pull apart some beta builds of stalker

Postby ket on 28 Oct 2010 13:39

Title says most of it. I've hit a small snag though, I don't have a unpacker that works on the beta builds. Does anyone have one that will work or know where I can get a unpacker from that will work? :)

ED - To make it a little clearer, retail versions of stalker use .db files you can extract stuff from, but in beta builds the database files use .xp extensions. I tried googling to find out what a .xp extension is but all that turns up is stuff to do with Win XP :banghead:

I think I had got one from a Russian site. I had a quick look into my folders, I couldn't locate it. I'll keep looking around the PC. Over 1 terabyte data, not easy to find things sometimes. Meanwhile, check Russian cites, if you haven't done so of course. Though usually difficult to understand what the things are; language problems naturally.

I've checked the only good russian site I know of; stalker inside. From what I could find they didn't have anything to unpack beta builds :( Sniffing around russian sites I think I'm actually starting to learn a word or two!

I'm afraid I can't find the extractor. I think it was in one of those folders that was lost last year during my VISTA glitch, as I had posted then. (My pre-Win 7 and pre-RAID time. It had suddenly reversed the C and D drivers and registry got messed of course, then I had to reinstall the OS, without backing up the latest stage; so, lost many files.)

I remember that those old files had been released by GSC somewhere, some time ago. Also, I remember that people had difficulty to running those when they tried. IMO, those files were not quite consistent and stable as they had been abandoned before reaching the final stage. I guess we're referring the same material.

You could try asking Dezodor, he's done more with betas then anyone else i imagine.

the regular unpacker (converter.exe) works fine. Create a .bat file with the following line:
Code: Select all
converter.exe -unpack -2215 .\gamedata.xp0 -dir .\unpacked

and run it. That should do the trick.

just noticed... if you're trying to unpack build 2571 create a .bat like this:
Code: Select all
converter.exe -unpack gamedata.db0 -2945
converter.exe -unpack gamedata.db1 -2945
converter.exe -unpack gamedata.db2 -2945
converter.exe -unpack gamedata.db3 -2945
converter.exe -unpack gamedata.db4 -2945
pause
