Finally decided to play with the E8500 a little:
easy OC to 3.420 ghz/RAM at 864 mhz - loosened RAM
timings to 5-5-5-15 (from 5-4-4-12) no voltage increase
anywhere yet...temps during gameplay up to 42c from
36c best I can tell - 1 to 1 ratio with the RAM. Simply played
Stalker/Inferno for awhile then checked temps as quick as I could. It's the lazy man's way.
I will get more serious later.

OK, I can't let your E8500 make my poor E8400 feel bad, so...http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Grump642/CPU.jpg And Memory http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Grump642/Mem.jpg
I can go higher, had it up to 4.0 for the hell of it, but at these speeds I am running, it will do anything I could ask. Tested with Prime 95.

That's wicked fast Grump...I like not having to raise any voltages
so far but eventually I'll "crank it". Waiting for the new video card - which I will crank to the max.

I left the core voltage set to auto. That way it stays within spec. I, personally, think that the higher the voltage, the shorter the lifespan of the chip. Of course, most of us don't keep them long enough for that to be a problem. Still, I do give my old systems to family members.

I'm just sneaking-up on this...CPUZ reads:
E8500 @ 3.705ghz w/vcore 1.225
RAM (5:6 divider) @ 936mhz vdimm @ 2.06v
Prime 95 2.5 hrs - core 49c-50c, core 48c-49c
looks like plenty more to go

E8500 @ 3.904 -vcore at 1.3065 (CPUZ shows 1.268)
5:6 divider - RAM at 986mhz 5-5-5-15
core0: 53c - 54c (temps under Prime95 load)
core1: 52c - 53c
Prime95 passed - 2hours (almost at the magic 4.0)

Help with a laptop

Man, if i could just get my ram divider set i could compete with you guys. I did run my quad at 3.8 once but it failed everest stress test cause i think core one went past 60c. That can be sorted out, but after that, the ram gives me BSOD. My board can handle 1366, so it looks like thats what i need. Then i can try catch you guys :-)

I must edit my Prime95 load temps: 59c & 57c...I may be at the
usefull max of my Zalman 9700LED cooler. I don't really want
temps to be in the 60's although only Prime95 would put them
there.
Vintar...how are you getting your temps on the Q8300?
Intel chips have to have a "TJ Max" setting configured before
your load temps are accurate.

Edit: I forgot, you have the EasyTune6 software and I think you
can trust that.

I check the temps through everest stress test, but tell me more about this tj max. Can never be too careful.

Superb indeed. Two questions ket. Do you have the same limited cpu multiplier as i do on my Q8300 ie. From 6 to 7.5 max? Second question. I ran my cpu at 3.80 for a short while, is it not possible to run yours at that speed seeing as your ram is pretty fast.

My max multiplier is 8x, which means I can easily get to 3.6GHz just by dialing in 450FSB. Got my quad off ebuyer for £137. I've been kind of lazy really as I havent messed much with max FSB, but with some fine tuning 470-490FSB is likely quite doable. I could probably run 3.8GHz but my quad doesn't have the best IHS in the world by far, it needs lapping. I won't be doing that quite yet though as I've only had the CPU a few weeks :p

I think he means the heat-sink.
I got 3dMark06 score of 17100. E8500@ 3.9,RAM @986mhz.
The quads really make a difference with 3dMark...too bad they don't
make a big difference in most games. Its going to be that way soon
I think. Games are beginning to take advantage.

Edit: Ket means "Integrated Heat Spreader". So he may lap the CPU itself.
