Thanks nightwatch.

Yes it supports 45nm structure upgradable to Core2quad which is what I am planning on getting.

It also supports my Pentium 4 which I will use for a while till I get my finances in order.

All P45s are 45nm and Quad core compliant, in fact, the P45 was specifically built by intel for 45nm CPUs :p I would recommend a P5Q Pro minimum if you want to OC. If you do not intend to OC at all, then a plain P5Q should do you fine. Primarily the difference between mobo models is the use of higher quality components and better implementations of various things. For example; the P5Q Pro use a 8 phase power design for CPU regulation, where a P5Q Deluxe uses 16 phase (better for voltage stability and OCing).

RAM: 2x16GB Klevv BoltX 3600MHz 16-20-20-35
GPU: Powercolor 6800XT Red Devil
Sound: Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-E, Realtek ALC1200
HDD: 250GB & 500GB nVME 3.0 M.2 drives, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, Sata3 64MB Cache, 250GB Hynix SL301
Opticals: DVD-RW, Blu-Ray

So, from reading about all these ASUS boards, am I to conclude that they are all Intel chipset? Because when I go looking online, none of these model numbers come up when I search AMD. And it's all damned confusing to be honest. I'm at the point to just throw a dart at the monitor and get the one it hits.

Ok. What about this one: http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3& ... odelmenu=1

That's a very good one. ASUS Board has saved me recently from (more or less) same type of problem that you have. They have very solid OC'ing capabilities and and they withstand punishments better.

This is an ASUS list, there are AMD boards as well:

Congrats! :thumbright: I hope it works without any problems as long as you use it, quite possibly it will. About your damaged mobo, I think you should be able to have it repaired or exchanged with another model as well, as long as it's still under guarantee.

I'm not sure yet what I'll do with the old board. It was only a $50 board to begin with.

BIG board LOL....booted up first time and that was with the wrong HDD. Shut it down and got the correct SATA attached and away she went. Now, to figure out all those settings in the BIOS. Whew, I thought my old board had a lot. But, a quick trial run of Fallout3 played beautifully so at default BIOS, very happy. :-bd =D>

So guys, I`ve bought my dvd-rw (LG), graphics card(Forsa9800GT), case and power and RAM(4 GIGS Transcend Jetram DDR800).

Now for the motherboard. We talked about the P5Q.

My question now is, which is better, the ASUS P5Q or Gigabyte EP45 UD3R ??

I bought the Gigabyte EP45 UD3L and I love it. The UD3R will add
Crossfire capability. With either Gigabyte or Asus you should be OK.
If you get a bad one...it's often because of shipping damage.

Whats your budget? Its really not worth skimping on the mobo, you truely do get what you pay for there. As a minimum I advise the P5Q Pro, of course the Deluxe is better still. Gigabyte also have some good P45 boards, assuming you don't mind their multi-coloured rainbow design.
