AMD strikes back

The Pentium 4 CPU's did put out alot of heat. But you can now get a "core 2 duo" CPU and it has less heat than the AMD's. If you can find someone to build a gaming machine for you it would be much better than buying from most places.

i second audioave10's opinion. You can surely benefit from a home-made Pc greatly instead of buying from a shop. Significant savings are quaranteed for the same spec PCs. Either someone can build it for you or you can try your hands on it if you wish, buddy. There are many guides on the internet and everybody would be very helpful here as online support for this operation.

I would be more than willing to help. The real trick is in picking the right hardware. And Dave, I think the new Phenom2 is cooler then the C2D. \:d/

The E8500 core2duo is a 65watt chip.
The Phenom II 920 or 940 is a 125watt chip. Somewhat unfair
comparison since one is a dual-core and the Phenom is a quad.
The Intel i7 (socket 1366) new quads are 130watt chips. I'll get
the E8500 soon as my last ever dual-core and OC to get 4ghz. After
that, my second system will someday be upgraded to my first quad-core CPU. It might be a Phenom since I'm waiting for things to
settle down abit before I buy a quad. The games I happen to play will run faster with a 4ghz dual-core right now. That will surely change in the future eventually.

Processor Idle Power Load Power
AMD Phenom II X4 940 (3.0GHz)109.6W 189.7W
AMD Phenom 9950 BE (2.6GHz) 124.2W 210W
AMD Phenom X3 8750 (2.4GHz) 127.5W 210W
AMD Athlon X2 6400 (3.2GHz) 101W 195W
Intel Core i7-965 (3.2GHz) 99W 199W
Intel Core i7-920 (2.66GHz) 95W 168W
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 (3.2GHz) 135W 219W
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 (2.66GHz) 126W 174W
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz) 134W 168W
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (3.33GHz) 124W 157W

I would have to say power usage is pretty close since AMD went to 45nm
This thing messed up my chart!!

You must be up at all hours of the day or night - like me.
Power usage is all over the place on that chart. I know AMD used to
be more honest with their max power specs then Intel during the
Pentium4 times. Intel would only give average power draw specs.
They both seem to be better balanced now and fairly close.

Yeah, I read about that. Pretty awesome stuff. Now if only TSMC would only get their SHIT!! together on the 40nm process. I want a damn 5870!!!!!!!!!!! My new 4890 is a good card, but it can not even keep up with the rest of my system.

I've heard that Newegg gets about 20 of them in every week or two and sells out within one hour or less.

OK, I have calmed down since my last post. Truth be told, as good as the 5870's are, it is kind of hard to justify $420 for the one I want. I could get another 4890 for ~$200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102841 and run crossfire. No tesselation or DX11 that way, but by summer the prices should be down on the 5870.
