Socket 1156 is for the "new" i5 CPUs. Unless your the type of person who gets a major hardon for DDR3 then forget about socket 1156 completely. i5, as with i7, does not offer a significant performance improvement over a C2D or C2Q system in 90%+ of tasks. I'm not even considering getting a i7 system nevermind a i5 system due to these reasons, and because theres already talk of i9, the i7 successor. You can pretty much guarantee i9 will be a worthwhile investment (albiet expensive one) and it'll require a new socket. Just like the 423>478 fiasco and the 754>939 fiasco.
The real name to keep your ear to the ground for is "Sandy Bridge". It will be a 32nm part with intels AVX (Advanced Vector eXtension) instructionset tech as well as most likely introducing better power efficiency and reduction. This is what I would call i9, theres a lot of changes, but AVX tech may require a few extra pins on the socket.. enter LGA 1368 or whatever it may be.
