New Rig

New Rig

Postby Grump642 on 13 Aug 2009 04:18

Well, I finally ordered the parts for my new rig. I like AMD, but the I7 has just far more horsepower.
Hiper Osiris case
Asus P6T SE
Corsair Dominator 6Gig(3x2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145253
Noctua HS+F http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608007
I7 920
Sapphire VaporX 4890 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102848
Corsair HX850 PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011
Western Digital HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319
I wanted to go with Corsairs new Hydro H50 CPU cooler, but the only places that could keep it in stock wanted way too much money. It's no better then the Noctua, but you don't have 10# of shit hanging off your MoBo. Oh well. I plan on adding a 2nd 4890 later. And this time, I went with Vista 64bit.

Grump...that's quite a monster you've configured. Glad you found a
silver case that's a Hiper (I love my black Anubis).
Good Luck on the build. Let us know how the 64bit turns out since I
want to go there eventually.

Thanks, I have been debating this for a while. But the horsepower from an I7 was too much to pass up. Dave, I could not get a silver Asiris, mine is black. Will report on the 64bit thing. I already started collecting 64bit apps for the stuff I use.

I guess the silver cases stay in Britain since the review I read was on a silver one from Bit-Tech. These cases are some of the coolest cases
you can get (temps).

Hope you are right on the temps, because after I crank this 920 up to 3.6-3.8, I will need LOTS of cooling! :-"

True, but buy Vista now and get free coupon for upgrade to Win 7 Pro when it comes out! :thumbright:

All the parts are in and I should get a chance to put it together this weekend. Will try to post pics and will update on 64bit. Just found out my remote help software will not work on 64bit. :-Q Guess I will have to find some different software.

Yeah, I paid $30 more, but that beats the hell out of full price later. And I am up and running NOW.

+Well, I got this computer together last night. So far no problems with 64bit or the rig. Little disappointed with my new case. Cable management sucks.

A lot of cases suck for cable management unfortunately, you have to be very creative about where the cables are placed so they don't really show.

Here is a couple pics of my new rig. http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Grump642/New%20Rig/FILE0003.jpg http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Grump642/New%20Rig/FILE0004.jpg

and here is a couple of screen shots while I was testing the OC. I have HT disabled for OCing, but will turn it back on and re-test later. Vcore is 1.25v, up from 1.2v stock. I am VERY happy with the Corsair memory! Stable as a rock at 1750Mhz!!!

I know this will do a lot more, but for now I am happy. :-"

Edit--Yes I know I take bad pics! :-??

I hope that great system serves you well. You are right...crappy bad
pictures...LOL... but only because I wanted a good look at the hard-
ware. I like my PC toys...I'm a hardware ho bigtime. Already trying
to figure out when & how I go quadcore and 64bit OS.
