Already did all that, man! Besides, its about time I upgraded my rig. I'm so sick of being the guy with a shitty computer! I want to play SmP on Uber Graphics, damnit! :P Anyways, everything is good. Sometimes bad sh*t happens so good sh*t can happen! Plus, I got my halloween costume! So everything is good. I think I'll go drink some Woodchuck Draft in celebration... Happy Halloween MoFos!

Thanks for the kudos. I agree, it sounds like you were being ripped! MoBo is the only thing that takes any time to replace, but 36hrs?!?!? Horse-Hockey! YOU could do it in 2-3 hrs. I HATE ripoff techs! :-Q They give the whole industry a bad name. Then when someone has a real computer problem, they are afraid to go to a shop. I like sharing what I know. It keeps me on my toes and spreads good will. People will remember the guy that helped them for free when they really need a shop.

Well, grump, its refreshing to see people like you in the world. We need more people who are a bit less... money-centric...
Now for something completely different... This is me at the Halloween parade today...

Just a question that randomly popped into my head... Does that gel you put onto your cpu between the processor and the heatsink usually come with the cooling unit, or do I have to buy that seperately?

Even if it comes pre-applied, clean it off (use alcohol pads) and use Arctic Silver #5. Small dot, 1/2 grain of rice, in the center of the CPU and then seat the cooler. It will spread by itself.

What Grump said...but there is a slight chance of a concave or convex
surface on the cooler. If your temps get high, I've always used a credit card to spread out a thin layer over the CPU and never had temp problems. That's why some "lap" their cooler surfaces although
the included cooler should be fine.

Usually its pre-applied to the base of the cooler. If you happen to be buying a cooler from Coolermaster, Scythe, OCZ or any manufacturer like that, chances are the pre-applied TIM (Thermal Interface Material) will be MX-2. Theres no need to wipe it off in cases like that as MX-2 is the same as AS5, if not a little better. My TIM of choice is Arctic Silver Ceramique, its cheap to buy in large quantities, non conductive so if it happens to bleed won't cause problems compared to AS5, and Ceramique is only around 2-3c less effective than AS5 at idle/load. Big linky on TIMs

Well, my ipod randomly shit the bed today at work. Any ideas on that?
EDIT: Scratch that. Apparently, all a metal ipod nano needs when it malfunctions is a good ol' whack on the table. (I got a little angry, and my ipod bashing randomly made it work...)

Another question:
I have been looking and looking online, but cannot find any information... so I come here for help...
Will Windows 7 64-bit be compatible with my Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Core Duo 800 FSB? Will XP 64-bit be compatible?
Basically I am asking: What OS should I get, considering my hardware and plans to further improve?

I second all the votes for the Windows 7, and preferably Windows 7 -64 bit. Particularly, it's almost phenomenal when you couple it with Quad CPU (in my case Intel Quad.) Everything, from very heavy Adobe Suits (CS4) to Maya are flying.

For games as well:
For example, STALKER XRay got into overdrive!!! While playing the same thing on VISTA 64 bit, spawns were coming in up to 3-5 minutes late, now they come in blink of an eye... in fact... they are thrown up in increased and more frequent bundles!! (I'll write it on NEWSA topic later  )

It may not be the God's creation and may not be perfect, of course, but go with Windows 7 64 bit, I join the voices above (LOL, not the voices from the space, I mean the above posts  )

Yo Mea, did you get this sorted?

I had a similar problem recently with my wifes old rig.

There was power but nothing posting to the screen.

I did however get long beeps when booting which pointed to the HDD.

I looked, and lo and behold, the sata cable clip on the HDD side was broken.

I put in a new cable, and "voila" the screen worked.

Yes, I did get it sorted... so to speak...

By rebuilding my rig... :P
Just got the last of me parts about 10 minutes ago. Double checking everything and finishing the build. 'Tis much fun, I tell ye! :)

Anyways, gots a PSU and CPU Cooler to install, so cheers man!

EDIT: NOw I am f***ing pissed. I want my f***ing money back from that tech @$$hole. He told me that it was the motherboard... so I replace the motherboard, which necessitates the replacement of the PSU, Cooler, and Case... so I spend 300$ to fix it... I even bought a new HDD and OS to be safe... so what happens when I start my computer up? THE SAME BLOODY THING. CPU is seated perfectly, I only have one HDD plugged into the the mobo, and my video card... start it up AND STILL NO POWER TO USBs, AND STILL NO DATA GOING TO THE MONITOR. I am on the F***ING warpath now. I swear, I had a bad day at work, but it was alright, because I would be able to work on my computer... which I love doing... but I keep getting F***ed over by this profit-at-all-costs bullshit... I need a f***ing cigarette!

EDIT EDIT: Grump, if I paid for shipping, how much would it cost for me to send my computer to you and ask you to just bloody make it work?

Found out the new problem with my new mobo... My old ram is incompatible with it... so now I need to get new ram...
Which sucks because I am broke now, after spending all my money on these new parts...
