Help me choose a mouse...

Help me choose a mouse...

Postby Nightwatch on 11 Dec 2009 19:51

Hey guys, my Logitech MX400 Laser mouse, after a glorious service for just a little over two years has finally raised the white flag announcing its retirement. It will be remembered with its gallant standing against all the ferocity of the Zone while gunning down the Monolith and controllers alike, or running before the Firebites, and dealing with nerve cracking stupity of Microsoft software ranging from Word to Frontpage, or drawing the "damaged tank" on MAYA. The logitech MX400... R.I.P. :D

OK, now I need to get a mouse, really quick. It's the same story, if you want a good one, there's just a few, like always, that if you can manage to see and spot them among and through the piles of junk that are cluttering one's vision.

I have a few candidates to choose from, selected in my capacity (which is not quite knowledgeable about the mice) So feel free to offer ideas not listed here, but also please tell me about those mice if you have used them or have close knowledge of the, as I wonder about the "bad" aspects of those mostly which you can ruin your day after you've bought it. So I want to know if tehre are any matters ( and I believe any one of them has a few) that would make them not a good option to buy.

Reliability, comfort (like buttons or wheels that are generally hated on a specific products. Anything that you can say to me like|: "don't buy this XXX, because it's like this."

I'm a bit leaning towards the Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse at the moment, but all the contenders that I've managed to fit on a list are these:

Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse

Logitech MX Revolution Wireless Laser Mouse

Logitech MX 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse

Microsoft SideWinder 2000dpi Mouse

Or any other that I failed to notice on the market??

Any comments are really appreciated.

G500 is a fantastic mouse. If your looking for a gaming mouse or not the only 2 things you need to remember are; look at the DPI, the higher the better, and how many buttons the mouse has. You never know when you may need a extra mouse button or two ;) If you shop around you can likely find the G500 for £28-30 :-bd

Yeah, thank you, Ket. It appears no negative comments on G500. For me,reliability, handling, precision and speed are most important. You can say what's left? :D In my hand, mouse works very hard, in one year it works 3-4 years of normal usage. So it seems G500 is the mouse to go for then. But I couldn't notice any place selling it less than £45. Maybe Xmas coming they upped the prices. If you see any place, please let me know.

Hmmm... that's really another good one. But is this shop a reputable one? I haven't shopped there at all yet. Scan seems to be selling it, too, but idiots ask people to call for the price. I hate such shopping practices. Still, I'll call them tomorrow and ask, as they request. lol. There's practically not difference, as it appears, between G5 and G500. G5 is 2000 dpi and G500 is 5700 dpi, but I think once you've passed the 2000 dpi level, the difference would not be quite noticeable between them in practice. Thanks Ket, great help. I'll decide for either of them tomorrow. :salute:

I've never shopped with them, but they do look reputable. Pricelover.com may sell the G5, I've shopped with pricelover before, very reliable and very good prices B-)

Thanks Ket, you've been a great help. :-bd I think I'll take the first advice and go for G500. I totally agree that having more buttons on a mouse is always an advantage.

I have received a very nice G500 mouse ( as Christmas gift from my daughter  ). I must say that now I'm considering to get a crappy mouse to use it on internet, etc, as this G500 feels so high quality that it'd be a waste to use it on worthless-applications and normal browsing, lol. :D I think this gives an indication on how I've found this mouse. It's very (I can't stress enough" very" ) precise, very smooth and beside having a lot of programmable (macro, too) buttons which I find so useful not only when playing games but also on applications like Adobe photoshop and the rest, it is also "very" silent. You can hardly hear the main left-right buttons clicking, and the side buttons are absolutely silent. You can also choose the "silent" super-fast scrolling mode for the "wheel" as opposed to a more traditional "click-by-click" scrolling mode. I hate non-stop clicking noises coming from a mouse, when you need to click a lot, I mean really a lot over hours.
Also it looks very nice, well, though not a big issue, but still that counts, too, on the PC desk. Overall: :-bd
