Fallout New Vegas General Discussion

Postby Balious on 04 Mar 2010 19:36

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas

Link has information about the game.

Here anyone can talk about this game all they want (mods in another thread when the game comes out perhaps?)

Heres information I gathered from the above link:
Fallout New Vegas will be developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. New Vegas is not a direct sequel to 3 but will have similar gameplay. The game is being worked on by a few of the people who worked on the old Fallout games when they were at Black Isle Studios.
Game is dated to come out this Fall.

My pre-ordered copy has come! Two days later than its release date, but as it's pre-ordered, it came with a bonus. An exclusive tribal gear pack. I had to install STEAM(!!) -despite all my objections and criticism of the enterprise- because it's not possible to install and run the game, and in fact downloading this bonus pack, without an interaction with Steam.

However, it's a very mild interaction (putting it this way, makes it sound less hazardous  ) and it only requires an internet connection to STEAM servers during the initial installation for activation purposes.

I've been reminded that I don't have to be online to play the game, but this needs to be seen and verified. Because, after the installation, I'm yet to start the damn game. Who knows how long will it take to get to it, lol.

Also, I think, you will still need to get connected -at least from time to time- in order to receive in-game bonuses and achievement. This, as well, needs to be verified by guys who have already started playing the game.

More info on this and and other subjects and aspects of the game is appreciated.

UPDATE:

I decided to try the game without waiting too long, mostly because of I wanted to be sure if the disk and all were OK so that I wouldn't miss the return/replace time if there was any faults.

And I admired one again GSC and once again admitted to my myself that we all make a lot of noise against STALKER about how it runs, stutters, crashes, etc, (though all such tantrums that we throw are like of those within-family type things, while brewing a strong admiration to GSC and STALKER)

Let's get back to the subject... Fallout New Vegas -despite created by 20 times more developers and 100 times larger budget of what GSC had enjoyed, runs like a old wooden chest being pulled by a tired old donkey!

Stutter... sudden and sometimes quite often CTDs. You're trying to make a quick save, and what... a sudden CTD or worse... the game is locked. Now raise the task manager and try to kill the process.

Shut down the AA and AF then it runs fine, but on what expense? Now the game looks like a bulk of S**T!! (PS: forcing the AA and AF through the Nvidia _latest_ driver panel does not achieve the expected result)

I have a rather high-spec PC. Even once stuttering STALKER runs like a dream on it. In fact, Bethesta's previous installment Fallout 3 also very smooth indeed!

So, what's wrong with Fallout New Vegas?

Simple: it carries all the wholemarks of a mindlessly rushed game.

-----------

Checked their forum. I'm not the only one. People are crying, shouting. A new patch is being promised and being waited.

Do not try the dll hack that someone is trying to promote. Wise people are against it. It tricks the game to think your graphics card is different, lowers the specs and loads different shaders not designed for the card you have. In long term it will hurt your card.
We all know, correction : expect some of us, we all know that Graphics Cards are not farming tractors... you can't kick and shove and hammer them around and expect that they still work...

Also... STEAM... proved itself as I expected a grand idiot. When you play offline, even once, this inept software cannot re-sync itself to your offline achievements and loses its track of following your progress. I'd expect that professional software developers who are being paid real money would think and manage to implement some very simple and basic abilities into their software. Hopefully, we can see a patch for this as well.

Until the patches, Fallout New Vegas is back on the shelf.

Thanks, I hope there'll be a performance based patch soon, they so anyway. It's potentially a great game, though it felt somehow not quite in the same league with Fallout 3. Early days, though. A couple of patches and DLC, it sure can do great.

OK people, most of you may well know this, but for those who doesn't:

When you find yourself in front of a door which says "Key required... cannot be lock-picked," and if you still want to open this door, this is what you need to do:

- Raise the console (you'll still be in the game when the console is up, and viewing the door naturally)
- Click on the door
- On top of the screen, on your monitor, an alpha-numeric value appears between parentheses, (123ABcd456efg7890) --this is just an example, not an actual code from from the game
- Then, write (you are still on console) unlock(XXXXXXXXXX) and then hit Enter. --there should be no space between "unlock" command and the alpha-numeric value, and you should enter the parenthesis as well like in this example.

- Voila! Off the console and click open the door as if you have the key, you are inside.

For example, Safe House of Brotherhood has mind-boggling value weapons and armours inside. But be careful, sometimes you can find more than what you wished for behind such doors, like in life. ;)

Yeah, not bad actually. :) They have fixed some earlier problems, now Steam function like a steam, heh he. Not played it for quite some time lately, though. Don't forget to open the doors with console order (as above) that otherwise remain closed due to the chosen paths in the game.

Btw, there's a new DLC called Honest Hearts, quite cheap in the UK here, what was it around a fiver? Something like that. Might actually download it later some time.

No. My internet connection is iffy at it's best with a 5 gig a month limit. I'm just doing Steam offline. Are there some good ones? I just completed a mod that was a lot of fun from the Nexxus forums. Anything by Puce Moose is a keeper :thumbright:

Downloads are really rather big, that's concern for me, too. Although we have much larger allowance here than the usual US practice allows, still, I'm using my internet quite heavily and downloading additional gigabites of files doesn't sound quite attractive. I can wait for the GOTY edition which always comes with all DLC included.

On the available DLC news, it seems Old World Blues available on Tuesday, July 19th (in the UK)
The official site says: "Fallout: New Vegas' third DLC, Old World Blues, will be available Tuesday, July 19th on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360."

Already available ones, I think, are: Honest Hearts and Dead Money, but I can't say for sure if they are any good actually, as it still feels that New Vegas not quite up to the level of Fallout 3. But, DLCs may well be better, hope so.
