You ever been on a raid where everything goes off without a hitch. You walk unscathed through a anomaly field, no mutant comes within 100 metres of you and hostile stalkers apparently can't shoot for shit.
You might have noticed there is one among you who despite everything, even when the rest of might be damning the ZONE to hell, who is calm as if nothing was wrong. The quiet pathfinder of your group, always keeping their face concealed.
To your fortune or misfortune, depending on how you've treated him and his past, you might have stumbled upon a natural controler, one of the few originals. The children of those left behind, who changed while still in the womb. The monstrous creatures you know as controlers are but lab manufactured half-breeds.
Many of you have heard of the anomaly barrier blocking the passage to the western reaches, well, this oldtimer said he has been to the other side. Said that he had the *real* compass once, the ones Forester and Noah had were rubbish according to him.
The real compass is actually that, a compass but it was somehow altered. Instead of pointing north, it shows you a way through or around of anomalies. One time however, on a trip to Red Forest, the needle started to wildly jerk around until it finally stopped and kept pointing in one direction. As he went on, the air became funny and a lot of static was all around, then suddenly, as if pulled through some door, he ended up somewhere different, even the time of day was different. His pda was fried and his regular compass kept spinning around, the only visible landmark was a town. For a while he pondered as to what to do next. Finally he decided to go to the town. The scenery, he said, was nothing like the zone, a tranquil picturesque meadow with a few groves. As he approached the town, the sun started to set and a eerie sinking feeling settled in his stomach. The closer he got, the stronger the feeling got as well. When he finally reached the town in the dead of night, it was silent, not even a sound of wind. Then he saw them, mere husks of the former citizens, walking down the streets and then something which he could only describe as a eldritch abomination. He ran as quickly as he could towward where he though he came from, desperately looking for a passage back. When he eventually did, he got rid of the compass, at least so he said.
