Warning!

If you use ATI cards, like I do, Do NOT install the new Cat 9.9! Lots of reports going around about lowered performance and even CTD's and freeze-ups. The 4850 seems to be the hardest hit. Just stick with the 9.8 drivers till they come out with the 9.10. They don't claim to have any new improvements or fixes in 9.9 anyway.

When did 9.9 come out? I think I am still using 9.8, but I am not %100 sure. If my drivers are on 9.9, is there a way I can at least roll them back to 9.8?

Thanks for the warning. Haven't got my graphics card but I am sure if I didn't read this I would of gone to 9.9.

To rollback drivers I believe you right click on the graphics card in device manager. Somewhere in those options the option to rollback the driver is there.

9.9 just came out. If I have bad drivers, I uninstall them and delete the "left behind" files. Then just install the old set. I don't really trust the roll back function.

I was a "Nvidia" only guy for years and they had their fair share of driver problems. This card I have now is the first ATI since 2000 and I am very pleased with it. My wife still has the 260 and hasn't had any problems (but her games don't demand much).

Re: Warning! ( OT content in this post, beware! )

Sorry for my OT - Q, BUT the other day i was trying to help a friend update the drivers on his ( older? ) "ati radeon 9600/ x1050" -graphics card, but had to give up at some point around the "download this driver robot and pay $29.95 to proceed" - stage. Can´t be right i said...

He´s certainly no computer-wiz ( nor am i ) and i´ve never had an ATI-card myself.

( On his own initiative he later installed an incompatible driver that totally crashed his system into a neverending restart-loop and he had to format the partition and reinstall XP and all the base drivers! =)) )

Aren´t there supposed to be a ATI-controlpanel like with NVIDIA cards and a no-nonsense driver download page... like NVIDIAs? :-?

The experience certainly didn´t make me wish that i had an ATI card, but i imagine that we´re just pretty ignorant and that there MUST be an easy way to find and install the newest drivers?!

The price says you were not looking at ATI's drivers. Phishing site? All ati drivers come from game.amd.com.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx And they are FREE!

Edit- Even AMD's website sends you here.

The price is right it seems, as i have no problems finding them either. Any top 10 google-link followed on my friends pc got directed towards that driver robot...maybe a hijack or something?

Thanks for your help :thumbright:
