No offense, but the last I heard, their 40nm yields were so low, 3%-6%!!, that they could not get enough good silicon for normal bug-checking. Doesn't sound too promising for the very near future.

Actually, Grump, that report has been proven to be completely false.
Their 40nm yields are just fine. I read a huge recent white paper on
that subject. Sorry, I can't find the site now. Obviously, its always
smart to wait for the "real" thing. The main thing is that both companies
are working hard towards tesselation, DX11, and many other features
that will make it easier on the developers.

ATi hardware has had tessellation units built into the GPU for some time, last reports I read about a week ago still state for nvidia GPUs to do tessellation it will have to be done through CUDA (software), which is rubbish, and naturally much slower than hardware. Even more worrysome is how nvidia have a whole site for the G300 and do nothing but talk up how amasing it is, how programmable it is, how versatile it is, etc, etc, etc... The last time nvidia done that was with the FX series... and I'm sure at least some of us remember how god awful the FX series was.

Ah, shit. I think I agree with Ket. And that worries me! :angel4: Anyhow, the main thing I see wrong( IMHO) is the size of the thing itself. I mean, didn't they just get away from these giant monolithic GPU's? This thing will be VERY high priced! 1/4th bigger then the 5870? nVidea wants the speed title, not, seemingly, to sell to mainstream people like us.

A lot of incomplete info as some of that stuff is for the Quatro version.
Clear as mud so far.

Not as muddy as you would think, Theres lots of final specifications drawn up, but putting it into sillicon is where things are falling over atm. Its already pretty solid that nvidia are hiding the true monolithic TDP the GT300 will take. 99% positive the final GT300 will require a 6 pin AND a 8 pin PCI-E power cable. Overall, the GT300 is just looking weaker than the HD5k series.

- Much higher TDP
- STILL no hardware tessellation unit(s)
- Most likely slower gaming performance on most GT300 products for more money than equivillent ATi hardware

Overall.. not currently looking too rosy for nvidia. I'm not a fanboy by any means, but given nvidias arrogance over the last year or more, I would love nothing more than for the HD5k series and intels Larrabee to slap nvidia and their GT300 upside down hard. Might make nvidia actually come out with a decent product then instead of regurgitating and renaming the same core architecture over and over again just to boost sales by confusing the naive consumer.

Even though I love my video cards and nice drivers (GTX 260, GTX 275), Nvidia's been
jerking off the public for awhile now. ATI is one-up on them big time. If I sell my 260, I
would get a 5850 right now.
