To be honest it actualy looks better, more atmospheric and immersive then dynamic in dx9 most of the time, least from the pictures i've seen. Although some of the test dx9 compiles look pretty darn sweet aswell. it's all on mod db.

No thanks, static lighting just won't look very good. They chose static to keep FPS up, guaranteed you put dynamic on that mod with those levels and youll be lucky to see 15FPS.

Actualy they got round 50 but it all depends on one's rig, as for why static, they are trying to get as close to the original as possible, even if the end-result isn't the best lookin, eyecandy isn't all

I doubt a typical rig will see anywhere near 50FPS. People like me will be fine, but I'm thinking of the people still running something similar to a single core A64 and a HD3850. "Getting as close to the original" is a poor excuse. DX9 features in SoC were not tacked on they were implemented fairly well with the exception of Global Illumination that takes some real tweak time to get something that looks nice and doesn't make the game perform like crap. Anyway, my point is with a mod like this only using static is a job half done - all or nothing.

If it is as good as Priboi Story, I could not care less about DX9. I come back to PS for the storyline and the need to think, to NEWSA for the sheer difficulty, and (hats off to ket) will keep KET for all the "little" surprises it pops up on me. Each strikes an interesting balance, each approaches providing an entertaining game in a different way, and are all just plain fun.

BTW, playing KET now, and Stancia1 ("first" NPP) is one of the most brutal levels I've ever played. Those choppers hate me, hate me, hate me. They'll even take out a military squad to get me (tried sticking close to the neutral soldiers to get by, nope!).

You can survive stancia, but its EXTREMELY difficult, and damn near impossible if you pissed the military off (as I have.. 8-[ ) To even stand a chance of surviving you will need the elite exoskeleton, Gauss rifle, FN F2000, a RPG, and a shotgun would probably be useful too. Don't go to stancia at nightfall, pretty as it may look - its suicide. Use as much cover as possible and you should be able to get by most the choppers. Any that get in your way with this tactic you should be able to take down pretty safely. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Hah! I'm there at the crack of dawn, all I have of your recommended Stancia kit is a shotgun, though I have an RPG back at Bar and nearly a dozen FN2000 donated to the cause by Monolith. Plenty of money, though, so I can give it a try. Getting there was no problem, getting through is a different matter, and I am certainly NOT trying to blaze my way through! Duck and cover, run as often as I can. Thankfully, I have a pre-Stancia hardsave as it appears you don't have a handy Stancia-Prypiat switch - yes I already tried going back!

The switch back to pripyat is in the new beta I'm working on for just such cases as thoughs who are unfortunate enough to just walk in on stancia expecting a walk in the park :p

It is pretty much stand alone with its own patch (so to say), a modified version of the unreleased 1.0007 as I have understood. All you need for the install process is the original disk. So far that info should be correct.

Apparently it is now in testing stages, a select few are running through it right now looking things over. So it is probably safe to say that it is right around the corner.

Lost Alpha: Stalker Diary #1

I was passing through the Dead City. Miles and miles of streets and city blocks where I was the only soul. It's easy to feel safe and complacent in such a setting of civilization. You imagine that wild creatures stay on the edges of town, away from the creations of Man with his concrete, steel and pavement. That thought quickly evaporated when I looked down the street 2 blocks away and saw a Bloodsucker walking around totally visible like he had not a care in the world. It was then that I realized this was his town and I was the intruder

Stalker Diary #2

I had decided to leave the main road. I headed across the endless fields with trees and shrubs, walking alone without seeing anything to tell me that anyone had ever been here before. The beauty of nature, the wind across my face and the sun setting was tranquil and exhilarating. I felt one with the world and far from the horrors I had seen in the days before. As dusk set I turned on my headlamp to guide the way. Even though it was fast approaching darkness I was not worried...that is until I heard the mutant dogs. Suddenly fear gripped me and I realized the weakness of my headlamp was inadequate to keep going like this facing mutants. I checked my PDA and saw that a ridgeline was ahead and I was anxious to get to the safety of an outcrop of rocks to climb. Quickly I scrambled up them and knew I would have to spend the night here as the dogs howled and barked all around me. I was truly in the middle of nowhere far from any roads or signs of civilization. And then I heard a strange sound...a steady hum. A continuous low, droning sound. Mechanical. Man-made. I took a huge risk as the dogs were very close and ran along the edge of a cliff suddenly finding a hidden opening surrounded by foilage. I entered the darkness with my headlamp shining ahead of me to illuminate the secret entrance before me. The dogs were right behind me and before me there was only one option. An Elevator that descended into the bowels of the earth below. All I knew was that no one had ever mentioned this place before and I didn't have the slightest clue where I was or what awaited me beneath. I did know that my food and ammo were very low and the thought crossed my mind that this could be a one-way trip
