New Rig- thoughts?

Very good pieces. Though I cannot say much about the ATI card, as I'm not much knowledgeable on ATI cards. The PSU is great, the same one I'm going for now. (I have the 520 W version of it now)
I use ASUS Lion Square cooler, that's great, too. If you want to make some comparisons.
You'll have a kick-ass PC.

Checked out the Asus Lions Square and here is what I found. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUxMSwzLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

Edit; And the Noctua is VERY quiet. Need more cooling, just add another fan in a push/pull setup.

Yes, Noctua seems to be cooler in that test. How about the noise? Is it more silent than ASUS one? I don't have complaint about mine, just purring.

Cheaper, cooler, and more silent. You've got a winner there, Grump642.
If I need to learn something on any component in the future, I'll sure ask you about it, you're lighting fast. :thumbright:

I hope you don't put that case on the floor...I never do. That's a
great case but it will suck up alot of dust if it don't have the filters. Looks like it does come with filters though. I've found
that you will have to clean those filters often but no big deal.
Everything else is about what I myself would buy. The BEST
choice (in my opinion) on the PSU. I only use (along with my tech buddy) WD hard drives...he has installed literally a hundred or more of the 320GB and a few of the 640GB models. Never has any of them failed. Good choices.
I must say that on my Intel setup I've never been so satisfied
with a mobo as I am with the Gigabyte UD3L I have. But I'm not
sure about the AMD setup you have...I'm sure you have searched out all that information. Maybe Asus is better there.
I've had a couple of Sapphire ATI cards (the most recent-x1800xt) and I was supprised it wasn't damaged because of
their cheap box & packaging. However, it was just fine.
Good Luck when putting that monster together...nice.

Thanks, Audioave. I never put a rig on the floor. I like to look at it. B-) And I do not use bottom fans for the reason you mentioned. I just like Asus, never had any problems with them. Gigabyte would be my 2nd choice.
Edit; One thing I like about this case, apart from excellent cooling, is the cutout in the MoBo tray behind the CPU. That way you can swap HS&F out without pulling the MoBo. Nice touch, that more mfg should use.

That is a GREAT feature! Your biggest decision may be 64bit or
32bit. I've read about excellent builds with 64bit and all games
and Apps run faster & better. However, they didn't list WHAT
those Apps & Games were. I'm still not sure how to go on my
next build either. Nowadays its easier to feel good about your
hardware choices then your software choices!

Noticed you listed 64bit and I would like to go that way myself.
Nightwatch had a hard time with that so I'll be waiting to see how you end up.

64 bit is THE way to go in my opinion. The hardware support is there. OS support is there. Most apps that work under 32-bit Windows also work under the 64-bit version (I know one that doesn't: Cisco VPN client).
No reason to live with the limitations of 32-bit windows anymore.

AudioaveIt might be a month or two before I can do it. Plus, Nightwatch's problems have ALMOST convinced me to stay with 32bit. :-??

I hear that. I've noticed that when reading about both hardware & software there are differences between what happens in Britain/Europe and the US. Be it Microsoft screwing up or hard-ware companies not being consistant with the change from
110/120 volt (US) to 220/240 volt Europe. Some software Apps
are not REALLY worldwide. Lots of possible problems to consider.

Alos, I had forgotten to mention, Nvidia DDS thumnail viewer does not work on 64-bit, either. Nope. I checked internet many had also been complaining. Though I had later found an independently manufactured plug-in that allowed DDS thumbnails to be seen, but not as much well known as Nvidia, though. I'll find the name and post it later.

I bought the 32-bit, downloaded the 64 and my key worked with it. I do like it. I don't know how many months I've used it now but it has been trouble free.

The 64 was a free download. Not a hack or other bull. Free.

Win7RC is also free so no need to buy anything to try an x64 OS.

Why not buy 32, then send off for the 64bit upgrade/download it. Microsoft will send a copy if you have a full (not OEM) Vista licence.

Or, instead of buying the OS now, you can save the money, use Win7RC as long as you can trying out both 32-bit and 64-bit versions and when the time comes where the RC expires you have the money to buy a retail Win7.
