I always find it funny when "those" people rant on about "oh noes the wOrLd WiLl eNd!" stuff. Especially the religious people. For years they have blarted on about the end of the world and when its never happened when it was "supposed" to they always had some pathetic excuse like "we misunderstood the dates it'll actually be..." then when thats wrong another weak excuse follows. 2012 is THE defacto year, if the world doesn't end then religious folk will finally STFU as the mayan calandar doesn't go any further :d

Also, just to rub it in a bit more. Do some deep digging into every war man has ever waged and you will find its been religiously motivated in some way. Just goes to show religion is a total crock.

Depends on the definition I guess. For the most part though the religious people I did used to talk to (just to prove how wrong they are I might add) still held firm man was "created" and didn't evolve. Not only that (you'll get a laugh out of this) but they believe dinosaur bones an stuff are simply here to "test our faith" despite carbon dating and the like proving without doubt the earth and the dinosaurs are way over 4000 years old and did exist, respectively. Once you start testing "believers" you soon find their misguided beliefs sound as absurd as scientology.

I concur, too.

Also, the proposal never will and can work, just for the fact -as one of the reasons for its doom- the US does not own the internet. Any law, even if it becomes a law, can only be forced within the borders of the US, and the US government -in case this becomes a law there- cannot stop its citizens and residents to access any ISP operating from a non-US territory, unless the US government ironically tries to censor streams in the same way it accuses with some other governments for just doing that. Just because of this contradiction, I believe this law proposal cannot be go further than a dream by some gaming corporations.

On another note, gaming companies should reduce their over-inflated prices and try ripping the people off a bit less. (how anyone thinks that these companies have managed to accumulate many billions of dollars/pounds/yens?)

Piracy is on the increase, and it's the direct result of the money in people's pockets. Every action creates a reaction. The age old rule.

A news on the subject:

Ultimately, any law can be passed but as pointed out enforcing it is almost impossible with the internet. ISPs will fight back as its more money they have to spend without being compensated and they won't do that. Then theres the ethical side of things in terms of privacy laws, trying to "spy" on what you do on the internet is not something that will ever happen otherwise regardless of what the user does, a single user could sue any number of companies into the ground for them stealthily putting malware/spyware on said users compter which is both illegal all by itself (no software must be installed the user does not explicitly give permission to) and breaks privacy laws.

End of the day, if companies are going to continue to churn out sub-standard software, stop trying to rip people off for it. Most PC users aren't complete idiots and will not buy something thats not worth its pricetag. Ask a fair price for something, and it will sell, simple as that.

@ Nightwatch, Have you read the comments from that link you posted? So many people thinking they are so "morally right" and on their high horse. At the end of the day people doing "piracy studies" are always going to be biased as they have been hired by somebody to make piracy look bad. If a true independent study was done and such things as digital downloads were counted (by which I mean digital downloads, not torrenting) sales figures would absolutely dwarf piracy figures. Heres even some reasons why piracy is a GOOD thing for users and publishers;

1. I don't want my wonderful shiny gaming PC being infested with DRM
2. When I buy a game, I expect it to work. Many PC games these days have FAR too many issues to warrent any money at all for them. Skyrim has a lot of bugs, the latest patch breaks almost every mod the game already has, and the less said about Rage for PC the better. Getting any hints here game publishers?
3. Games that are actually worth the cash I buy, last PC game I bought was Deus Ex Human Revolution, fantastic game. Absolutely no bugs, and far more pointedly, the publisher took into account the game was made for console and adjusted the price accordingly for PC. I got the game for £22 delivered.
4. More often than not games with online play that get pirated actually encourage sales as online play is popular for that game
5. Pirated games actually help publishers, more than once a publisher has admitted a pirated game is better than the game not in the household at all as it increases their market share for that franchise. I'll let you all draw your own thoughts on that I don't think I need to comment further.

Give me a day or two and I'm sure I'll think of a lot more reasons why pirating can have a lot of legitimate reasons for doing so (and I'm not talking simply "because I can't afford it") Thats not a legit reason.

I had someone tell me recently that she/he always pirates the game first. If it's no good, it's deleted from the computer. If it's good, it's bought and paid for.

Another supporting argument on the net is that some software developers -either amateur or professional- crack the codes in "in a personal or an internal scene environment, and not for distribution" in order to learn the dynamics of that particular software and improve their knowledge. (Apparently, in some cases some people getting hold of these things sometimes and then leak them into the internet. )

Life happens, people come, people go, priorities change. One has never really been a frequent guest, can not really ask a drifter to settle down but of this you can be sure this here stalker will linger on, even if it is in the shadows. However there may be more people on their way to these parts, sad as it may be GSC might close down, One has forwarded and invitation should worst come to pass

I moved your thread to the BAR thread, ket, as it was not quite a thread but a suitable subject in the Bar  Have some drinks on me guys :occasion5:
And, yes, DARK TEMPLAR has a good point there, and also we offer a bit upscale work and advice here, not on the same questions and answers dealt with at least hundreds of times before. There's a search system, people can find small things without asking. We are receiving several thousand hits every day (avg 5000, not so bad for a gaming & modding site) and due to this reasonably moderate visibility on the net, bots are trying to place many ads, even gucci bags, lol, and I and Rock work hard to clean/disapprove those posts. :D

When there's an interesting subject, as any of us can and do post when we see and come up with, people always comment. Hopefully will continue to do so. Chheersss, guys. :drinkers:

And to further the info on the "spam" posts, lately they have been coming in the form of news articles just cut and pasted. Mostly world news which is fine but not really why we're here so they get disapproved. The others that Nightwatch mentioned have links embedded to other sites (jackets, boots, etc). We welcome all new members that wish to talk about The Zone :D .
