We bought the Los Angeles Times on Sunday. Front page was a story. "Refugees trapped in Chernobyl's grip" by Sergei L. Loiko reporting from Stary Vyshkov, Russia. It starts, "After Svetlana Ivanova and her husband moved to this village in southwestern Russia 17 years ago, they laughed when they found out what locals called the $4 monthly payment for living in the contaminated Chernobyl zone: funeral money. Then one warm spring afternoon three years ago, her husband, Pyotr Ivanov, came home from a job-seeking trip to Moscow, put on a clean white shirt, stepped out into the garden "for a smoke" and hanged himself. Ivanova, a mother of three, admitted that sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night and thinks about killing herself too. ""We all live in radioactive houses, we breathe this radioactive air, we eat this contaminated food, we drink the polluted water,"" she said, trying to hold back her tears. ""We are like prisoners, like hostages with no escape."" " This is a two page article that goes on to tell about many suicides (mostly the young). Six young people in the last ten years have hanged themselves. The first was 24-year-old Vladimir Laptev. "It is the zone that kills the young and leaves the old be." Laptev's mother, Roza Lapteva, said in a quiet, almost indifferent tone. "I don't know how it does it, but the zone is to blame."

This article goes on with mentioning a state program to compensate people living in the zone. Monthly subsidies of $11. Most spend hundreds on medications. Some diseases in the zone are 60% higher than in the rest of the region. There are 450 people living here.

You'll get used to the ethereal plain soon enough. Technically what you are feeling are actually memories of feelings and if you truly find your current visual state unfit, well it's simply a matter of will, a thought and voilà, you now have clothes.
ed: Infact most of your feelings are now obsolete, all those which you once felt when you still had human body are now more or less meaningless, only a few of the non-physical ones are remaining however they will eventually fade away aswell as you become more and more distant to the human condition. As the Comedian said "You're driftin out of touch Doc"

yup, so far this has been a year one of a kind. You know the priest who had predicted (!) the end of the month which was supposed to be the 12th of this month, I guess; lol, many peopale are said to have lost their savings because they believed him and either spent or donated all their money. AND, people were paying up to $200 to have their pets looked after while they were gone! Damn I wish I'd thought of that scam. "Yes that is payable in advance since you won't be here to pay me later. Thank you."

Hey, buddy, you should let me know these kind of things, lol. Wow... $200! I guess daily; it's still super even it was weekly. Yup, a dogs-lifetime contract, of course payable advance, say 5 years term average x dogs (100/ 200? 1000?) We would be millionaires Villa in Hawaii, or anywhere in the world, in fact several of them. Shame on those stupids.
